As long as I have been programming (about 35 years now) a common, recurring, and never ending discussion though is how to categorize programming as a discipline. I think for some reason computer programming is often miscategorized as a discipline to study or a class to take that's only relevant for aspiring software engineers. They are reasonably easy to reproduce and can be debugged using standard methods (code coverage). This captures the essence of pairing as far as I'm concerned – it is a discipline of “programming out loud”. #3 | Written by Jorge Aranda on July 12, 2011. But it by no means suggests that in order to be a great designer you must also be a great programmer. Many of us, however, formerly self-studied the discipline of programming and filled in the gaps in our knowledge with most, if not all, of the subjects taught in the University programs. Still, if the only problems were deterministic access violations, I could live with them (I'm a very disciplined programmer). Knowing that the details make the product itself.
